Summary: Strudel, a homeless dachshund, loves listening to Jake read from Chief, Dog of the Old West at the animal shelter. When Jake decides to adopt him, Strudel vows to be as brave and loyal as Chief. Readers get a dog's eye view as Strudel narrates this story of a dog who needed a family, and a struggling family who needed a dog.

Review: Since dachshunds are my favorite breed of dog, I just knew I would absolutely love this book! Strudel the dachshund (such an adorable name for a dog) is at an animal shelter waiting to be adopted when a young volunteer reads to him from a book about a brave dog living in the wild west. Strudel can’t get enough hearing about a brave dog by the name of Chief while feeling heartbroken that he doesn’t have a family. Turns out there’s a family who needs Strudel as much as he needs them. This was such a touching story told in the point-of-view of sweet Strudel. I would recommend this book to any dog lover young and old.
