Summary: In the first book of Dashner’s Maze Runner Trilogy, Thomas wakes up to find himself in the Glade, a small community of closed-mouthed boys in the middle of a giant maze, with no memories except for his own name. And things keep getting even stranger after that. For the past two years, the Gladers have received food, tools, and new boys through the mysterious lift that brought each of them to the Glade. But when a girl suddenly arrives predicting change and the food deliveries stop, Thomas and the rest of the Gladers must do everything in their power to try to escape the maze before it is too late!

Review: After hearing so many positive things about the Maze Runner movie, and the recent release of the second movie in the series, I finally decided to read this book. I normally love science-fiction and dystopian novels, but parts of this book fell a little flat for me. I felt like the characters were somewhat underdeveloped, and the first half of the book went slowly for me. I almost gave up on this book about halfway through, but I’m glad I finished it. The second half of the book had more momentum and the ending even inspired me to check out the second book in the series, The Scorch Trials.  Although this series had a slow start, I think it is worth reading because it has such an intriguing plot and so much potential. I’m excited to see whether Dashner continued the upward momentum of the second half of this book in The Scorch Trials!

Summary: Mae and the moon love to play together. Their favorite game is hide and seek. But when the moon disappears one evening and cannot be found, Mae wonders what happened and begins to worry. Determined to find her glowing friend, Mae takes matters into her own hands and sets off on a wonderful and curious voyage through her imagination.

Review: A perfect story to stir your child’s imagination. Mae loves her friend –the moon. They see each other almost every night, it follows her wherever she goes, and sometimes she’d even try to catch it. But the night after the moon was just a small crescent she can’t find it. She looked all over. She decides to make a moon “chaser” and find it herself. A beautifully illustrated story and a must read.

Summary: A family ranch...A horse whisperer...A fight to save a dream...Set against the stunning vistas of the Rocky Mountains, Heartland follows fifteen-year-old horse whisperer Amy, her older sister Lou and her grandfather Jack through the highs and lows of life on a family-owned horse ranch.

Review: I was interested in this show after watching the Christmas special on the Up channel. After watching the first season, I was hooked. The horses, the ranch, a teenage horse whisperer, the family, and my favorite - grandpa Jack make this show a must see for the whole family. I tend to say it’s a modern day Little House on the Prairie. Why not check out a different way of life at a horse ranch and a family you won’t be able to forget?
