Day)
Author: Sally Warner
Rating: 4/5 Stars

Summary: Kara is a sixth
grader who is trying to cope with difficulties she is having at home. Her
father isn’t around because of his job and her mother suffers from depression. Kara
also has a secret to reveal.
Review: This is a very
interesting book with an intriguing main character. Kara’s mother is suffering
from depression and it affects her own young life everyday. She makes lists as
a way to make herself feel real, even though she numbed herself to the lack of
normalcy around her. She tries to mimic those in school and on TV so no one
knows how her mother’s illness has been affecting her. Kara’s mother seems to
get all the attention even though Kara needs attention from both herself and
others. The reader realizes this almost instantly in the book. She learns to
cope with her circumstances in the best way she can and has her friend
Stephanie, who doesn’t know too much about her situation, to keep her company. I
developed sympathy for Kara and her family throughout the book and found Kara
to be a really strong and independent person.
